"As of July 27, there are 172 detached homes, 62 townhouses and 267 condos for sale throughout Arlington County. In total, 45 homes experienced a price reduction in the past week." (ARLnow, July 29, 2026)
That's 501 homes for sale in one week. So is Arlington short on housing, or short on affordable housing? That question set off more than 30 comments on Nextdoor.
What neighbors said
"The housing in ArlCo is just unaffordable and that's the issue that should be addressed by the County Board. Not more unaffordable housing by jamming in EHO multiplexes." — Jay H., Rock Spring
"The hypocrisy that this is being done by the county board so that school teachers, firemen, and police officers can afford to buy homes is overwhelming." — Mary Jo K., Aurora Highlands
"All types of housing - duplexes, triplexes, five-story condo/rental buildings etc - are needed to give people options for different wallets and solve the housing shortage." — Andrey D., Meridian Hill East
"The scarcity isn't just availability. It's reasonable prices proportionate to wages - aka affordable homes are scarce." — Frank A., Eastern Market South
"EHO is causing land values to increase drastically." — Michael B., Waycroft-Woodlawn
"In this market, that $880,000 house, without MM, will likely be replaced by a $2+ million single-family structure." — Marko V., Dominion Hills
"that's no excuse for demolishing one house that costs $880,000, and putting two town houses on that lot that cost $1,500,000 each. More unaffordable than the original house!!!" — Mary Jo K., Aurora Highlands
"You need thousands of new units to impact pricing in a dense market w high land value." — Jay H., Rock Spring
